Rules and Regulations
About the competition
- This is a solo competition.
- The competition is only for the competitors from South Asian countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and the Maldives.
- The entire competition is based on the following subject areas
- Cosmology
- Observational Astronomy
- General Astronomy
- Astrophysics
- Rocketry
- Astrobiology
- The competition consists of one round and is scheduled to be started via Zoom Conference and continued through our website.
Registration
- Please register for the competition using the following link:
https://rahalcosmos.lk/register - Using the same device for both registration and the competition will be benefited.
- Deadline for registering is 17.12.2023.
- Accurate information must be submitted at registration, and all the contestants must be students from grade 6 to grade 13.
Those who belong to Grades from Grade 6 to Grade 9 are registered under the Junior Category while the older students (provided that they do not exceed 20 years of age as of 1st January 2024) are registered under the Senior Category. - When registering for the competition use the following format:
- Birthday - DD/MM/YYYY
- WhatsApp Number - +(Country Code)XXXXXXXXX (Ex: +94701234567)
- Everyone who registers will receive a unique participation key for Rahal Cosmos'23.
Ex: 024:xHkaNc - The participation key provided at the registration is a unique key given to you and therefore it must not be shared with any other third party for any given reason.
- Remember to keep it safe with you until the competition begins since you will be unable to join the competition without the above stated key submitted at the commencement itself.
Guidelines and Event Procedure
- The Competition will run under two categories; Junior and Senior Category. The structure of the event will remain the same for both categories.
- All the contestants will be added to our official WhatsApp groups upon registration.
- The event is scheduled to be held on 29th December, 6.00 pm (IST) onwards.
- The Link for the event will be provided through the WhatsApp group and everyone must make sure to join the event at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time.
- When joining the Zoom Meeting for the event, please consider to rename yourself using the following format.
- Junior Category: JC - [Contestant Index] - [Your name]
- Senior Category: SC - [Contestant Index] - [Your name]
- The Contestant Index mentioned above is the first three digits from the Contestant key we have provided you.Ex: 024:xHkaNc - The Contestant Index is 024.
- Those who fail to rename within the provided time at the commencement will kindly be removed from the meeting.
- All the contestants must have their cameras turned on throughout the event and none of the contestants will be allowed to use any kind of a virtual background.
Quiz Round
- The Quiz Round will start after the Opening Ceremony and the contestants will have to answer Multiple Choice Questions based on all the subject areas.
- Junior Category - 30 Questions
- Senior Category - 40 Questions
- The Quiz Round will operate through our website and the participation key we had provided you at the registration process has to be submitted as for the access to be granted validly.
Task Round
- There will be two unique tasks prepared based on the practical usage of the given subject areas.
- Contestants will have to complete the given tasks within the provided time period.
- The final results of the event will be calculated based on the scores recorded by both of the above rounds.
Event Rules and Regulations
- It is your utmost responsibility to maintain a stable Internet connection consistently throughout the competition. Our committee will not be responsible for any sort of a technical issue showcased from your side.
- Each segment of the competition must be responded within the allocated time. Extra time will not be allowed under any circumstance.
- Use of violent or racist language in the answer sheets will not be tolerated and such contestants will be disqualified from the competition.
- All the contestants are required to behave appropriately throughout the competition.
- The final result sheet will be overseen thoroughly by the Academic Committee appointed for the competition. The Judges' decision will be the final and no changes will be made to the final result sheet.
- Any negative or unfavourable remarks (except constructive criticism) towards our committee will not be tolerated and immediate actions will be taken against them.

- Junior Category (Grade 6 - 9 / Age 11 - 14)
- Junior Champion - Rahal Cosmos Junior Gold Medal
- Junior 1st Runner Up - Rahal Cosmos Junior Silver Medal
- Junior 2nd Runner Up - Rahal Cosmos Junior Bronze Medal
- Top 10 - Junior Category Merit Certificates
- All the contestants will be awarded a valuable certificate for participation.
- If there would be any contradictions between the Sinhala and English versions of the rules and regulations, please consider that the English Version is to be accepted.
